The University is committed to performing elevator preventative maintenance and emergency service to all University elevators. When an elevator malfunction occurs please follow these instructions:
If you are on the elevator push the emergency button and Central Alarm will be notified.
If someone is trapped you experience an elevator problem or wish to report a malfunction call the Facilities Services One Call Response Line 946-7777. Your call will be answered live and service restored.

ELEVATOR OUTAGES:
By this memo we are requesting an elevator outage to perform maintenance repairs for Howard Baker Center on February 6, 2017 from 2:30pm until 4:30pm.

By this memo we are requesting an elevator outage to perform maintenance repairs for Jane & David Bailey Education Complex & Philander P. Claxton Education (Only one elevator at a time) on February 10, 2017. They will start with Jane & David Bailey Complex from 2:30pm until 3:30pm. and Philander P. Claxton Education from 3:30pm until 4:30pm. If for any reason any of your building occupants need access to the elevator during this outage please notify the Preventive Maintenance Office at 974-5346 and we will have the mechanic release the elevator.

Maintenance Protocol
  1. Classrooms without expensive electronic equipment will not be locked.
  2. Classrooms that have been upgraded with computer projectors, document cameras, smartboards, etc., will be locked after the last class by the custodial staff from Facilities Services.
  3. Classrooms that are locked at night will have to be opened in the mornings for classes by someone designated by the Dean of each college. Facilities Services and the UT Police will not be able to unlock these classrooms except in extreme emergencies.
  4. Facilities Services will clean the chalkboards and chalk trays on a daily basis. They will also provide the chalk and erasers as needed. Please keep in mind that this cleaning and stocking activity is performed once per day and at night.
  5. Facilities Services will clean whiteboards and trays on a daily basis. They will also begin to supply black markers only as soon as they get geared up to do so. Please keep in mind that this cleaning and stocking activity is performed once per day and at night.
  6. Facilities Services will clean and straighten each classroom on a daily basis. They will also realign the tables, chairs, and tablet arm chairs to their standard location. Please keep in mind that this cleaning activity is performed once per day and at night.
  7. Facilities Services will maintain and repair all classroom furniture and equipment except for the electronic equipment. Problems with any of this furniture and equipment should be called in to the Facilities Services One call line at 946-7777. This includes items such as broken windows, blinds, shades, tables, chairs, screens, chalkboards, etc. The need for additional chairs or removal of too many can also be called in to this number.
  8. OIT-Ites-Classrooms will maintain and repair all classroom electronic equipment installed by them and/or provided in campus classrooms. This includes SMART classrooms, Smart Boards, internet access, podium with laptop connections, sound systems, projection systems, DVD/Laserdisk/ VCR players, document cameras, and 35MM slide converters. They may be reached at extension 4-9110. They are committed to a 10 minute response time.
  9. Overhead projectors, slide projectors, and other simple pieces of equipment are not provided by or maintained by Facilities Services or OIT. However, Facilities Services will provide replacement bulbs and minor repair for existing equipment that is already in classrooms.

  1. Purpose
    The purpose of this protocol is to assign responsibilities and to implement an emergency plan for the removal of snow and ice within the University area. Accomplishment of snow and ice removal will have priority over Facilities Services work orders other than those of an emergency nature, e.g., power failures, broken water pipes, etc. The responsibilities assigned by this protocol will remain in effect until superseded.
    • Building Entrances.
      The Assistant Director for Services will be responsible for seeing that snow and ice is removed from all entrances, walks, and handicapped ramps approaching the buildings for which Facilities Services has custodial responsibility. The Director of University Housing, the Director of the Aquatic Center, the Director of the University Center, the Director of Athletics for Facilities and Grounds (Neyland-Thompson Sports Center), and the Director of Veterinary Teaching Hospital will be responsible for the handicapped ramps into the buildings they manage. GCA Services Group will be responsible for the buildings that they clean under contract to the Facilities Services Department.
    • Streets, Walks, Handicapped Ramps, Garages and Parking Lots.
      The General Superintendent for Grounds will be responsible for the removal of snow and ice from streets, walks, handicapped ramps, garages, and parking lots. Priority for removal will be as follows:
      1. Andy Holt Tower Parking Garage (upper deck)
      2. The East-West bus route including the bridge to Ag Campus and pedestrian bridge over Cumberland Avenue at 11th Street
      3. Thompson-Boling Assembly Center and Arena ramps, sidewalks, and parking lots when events are scheduled
      4. Volunteer Boulevard and Lake Loudoun Boulevard
      5. University Residence Hall Areas (including crossover bridge from Strong Hall)
      6. Main Campus Streets, Walks and Handicapped Areas
      7. Veterinary Teaching Hospital Emergency Clinic Parking Area and Animal Off Loading Area
      8. Agricultural Campus Streets, Walks and Handicapped Areas
      9. Parking Lots and Garages with Parking on Top Deck (including Stephenson Drive Complex)
      10. Middlebrook Pike Building and Kingston Pike Building
      11. Other City Streets Within the Campus Area
      12. University Apartment Complexes on Sutherland Avenue

    To assist the General Superintendent of Grounds in carrying out these responsibilities, the General Superintendents of Building Services and Preventive Maintenance will provide personnel and equipment as required during the period in which this plan is in effect.

  2. Motor Pool
    The Director of Transportation Services will, upon request, make available to the General Superintendent of Grounds any operational University equipment required for snow removal. Grounds, police and other emergency vehicles will be given priority for installation of chains. A list of other Facilities Services vehicles to receive chains will be submitted to the Director of Transportation Services in a priority order. Only vehicles on this list will be taken to the Motor Pool for chains.
  3. Notification of Personnel
    • Normal Duty Hours.
      This plan will be implemented upon instructions from the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor of the Facilities Services Department.
    • After Normal Duty Hours.
      The decision to initiate this plan will be the responsibility of the Senior Police Officer on duty. When it becomes evident that the plan should be placed into effect, i.e., snow is accumulating and is expected to continue to such an extent that vehicular travel will be difficult, the Senior Police Officer will ensure that the following individuals are notified so that they can put the plan into action.
