Grad Celebration Recommendations – Clear the Confetti!

As graduation approaches, we love to see students celebrating their successes all across campus! One of the greatest joys for our Facilities Services team is to see the students we support achieve their goals, and we love a good graduation photo shoot! That’s why we take such great pride in campus grounds, sidewalks, and facilities. We want the backdrop for your big day to represent UT’s academics, spirited traditions and sense of community.

While we all know that confetti is THE perfect picture prop, we ask that you pick up the pieces once you’ve finished your celebrations on campus. Confetti is such a fun way to capture the moment, but it doesn’t just disappear. It may not seem like a big deal, but when dozens of soon-to-be grads get the same idea, it can be quite the clean up process for our already short-staffed team. It can also be harmful to local wildlife if not removed promptly.

We are by no means anti-confetti! We love to see your photos! However, we do ask that you do the responsible thing and clean up after yourselves because Vols help Vols. Better yet, why not take a page out of the UT Office of Sustainability’s book by utilizing a sustainable confetti alternative? You could use flower petals, leaves or bubbles for equally fun and festive photos!

By doing your part to clean up your confetti, you’re helping us maintain picture-perfect locations across campus that will serve as stately scenery for generations of Vols to come.

Congratulations to the Class of 2024! We are so proud of you, and we can’t wait to see what you do from here.
