Design Services Director, Andy Powers, Named Southern Regional Chair of the Society for College & University Planning

Andy Powers, Director of Design Services, was recently elected Southern Regional Chair of the Society for College & University Planning. The Society of College and University Planners (SCUP) is a professional association dedicated to the integration of planning in higher education institutions. The organization consists of 5,300 members in 33 countries.

The Southern Region of SCUP includes college and professional planners from 12 southeastern states from Texas to North Carolina, Mexico and South America. Powers will serve as Southern Regional Chair for two years. During this term, his role is to bring public and private sector subject matter experts together to meet the rapid pace of change and competition in higher education to shape and define its future.

Of his new role, Powers said, “My selection as Southern Regional Chair is humbling, exciting and daunting. I look forward to collaborating with people across the U.S., Mexico and South America to expand my knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing higher education, and working together to create solutions that truly work. I believe this can be done by having honest, respectful and regular dialogue with a diverse group of stakeholders.”

While Powers is new to the role of Southern Region Chair, he’s no stranger to collaborative work. He’s served in Facilities Services as Director of Design Services since 2014, and in that time, he’s seen the campus undergo many changes.

Powers expresses his gratitude saying, “I will count on the support of my awesome colleagues here at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I appreciate Dave Irvin’s support in allowing me this incredible opportunity for growth and positive exposure for our University.”
