FS Updates: Water Main Break on 2/28/2020

On Friday, February 28, 2020 around 4:45am, a water main break was reported in the Engineering Quad directly in front of SERF on Middle Drive. When crews arrived on the scene to remove the pavers and begin excavating, a drop out occurred caused by the pressure of the water main break. The water main break and drop-out combined to create a situation where water service was shut off to Perkins and Ferris, and Natural Gas was shut off to much of The Hill. Middle Drive was also closed during this time. As Facilities Services crews evaluated conditions, plans were put in place to restore the use of water and natural gas as quickly as possible.

Facilities Services worked through the weekend to cause as little disruption to campus operations as possible and to ensure the safety of all. As of Monday morning, normal water service has been restored to the Hill area including Ferris and Perkins Halls. Natural gas service has been restored to The Hill, and the roadway has been reopened with a temporary gravel surface at this time. Permanent restoration of the roadway will be made at a later date, likely during the summer.

Work is ongoing in this area, and we ask that all students, faculty, staff and visitors remain cognizant of heavy equipment and vehicles moving about.

Additional updates will be posted here, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
