In light of unexpected issues with the steam plant and system over winter break, UT Facilities Services will be conducting additional testing on Friday, June 2nd beginning at 8am. This testing may cause intermittent outages throughout the steam system, and we ask that you please make arrangements for events, research, equipment, etc. ahead of time. As we prep for the week-long outage (scheduled 6/3 – 6/11), steam to all campus buildings will be shut off on 6/2 at 2:30pm. Steam will remain offline through Sunday, June 11, 2023.
The outage will affect the following and should be noted by anyone who will be living and/or working on campus during this time.
The outage will affect:
Domestic hot water in most buildings on the main campus (meaning hot water in restrooms, kitchens, break rooms, etc.), Sterilization for autoclaves and sterilizers that use steam, Digesters at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Building Heat (Newer buildings will experience cooler than normal temperatures), and Humidity Control.
Please make sure your teams are aware of this plan in advance. While we are aware that the outage may cause an inconvenience for some, we ask that you please remain patient as it is a necessary part of taking care of our campus and serving our students, staff, faculty and visitors well. If you have questions about this outage, please contact Sam Ledford, Communications Coordinator for Facilities Services, at sjones80@utk.edu.
As always, it’s a privilege to serve.
